Default Factory electric oil pressure gauge

I have a 92 Chevy van with the 5.7 motor. The last few weeks the oil pressure gauge pegs out til the motor warms up. Today it literally pegged out. When you press on the accelerator it acts like a tach. Speeds up than when I ease off of the pedal the gauge lowers itself. Sounds like the gauge might be grounding out ? Would it be easier to go ahead and install a mechanical gauge > Thanks Steve

Only issue with a mechanical gauge is it can leak, other than that I'd prefer that over an electrical gauge.

I'd be curious as to know if the computer in a '92 monitors the oil pressure before I make that choice. I'd hate it if that damn check engine light stayed on FOREVER.

The newer engines have 2 sending units, one for the pcm and one for the gauge.
You can always install a brass T and have both.
Mounting a mechanical gauge can be a pain, and I hate how the new ones come with clear vinyl tubing instead of 1/8 soft copper. Ummm....no way I am using vinyl.

I'm thinking it's possibly the oil pressure switch. I don't have an idiot light for the oil but a factory electric gauge that tells you the pressure. My next question is can someone tell me where the oil pressure switch is on the block. I'm not familiar with GM ?
Do I have to crawl under the van or can I access it from inside the van by removing the cowling. > It's pouring raining today hopefully it'll let up this afternoon.
