fluctuating oil pressure guage

Spikes to what? My van has oil pressure just about a 1/4 on guage at idle then goes to half way at speed. That is fairly normal.
If your gauge is spiking to full on engine revving then it could be a bad gauge or sending unit, or also a shorted signal wire.....grounding the wire will peg the gauge to full.....
