Still waiting on new shocks to come from FedEx, got one of those "delivery pending" with no arrival date available kinda deals so that's just great. Moving forward.
I'm mildly embarrassed to admit that I hadn't changed the air filter on this poor thing in the 50,000 miles that we drove it:
I was surprised to see how inexpensive some of the body parts were for this thing, makes sense given how many have been and continue to be produced. Every time I looked at the pics of this thing from when we got it back from the body shop, the old headlight on the passenger side bothered me. So I figured I'd get a new one for that side too. Boy are they a nightmare to remove. It's pinned in by the fender and grille, and when you do manage to finagle it out from between them, there's this adjuster thing sticking out the back that won't let it come out. So I did the right thing and clearanced that part of the core support with a die grinder so I didn't mess up the shiny new headlight.
Then I spent some time cleaning the interior but the lighting wasn't great so didn't bother with getting pics of that. I need new shocks because the old tires were cupping badly and I don't want the new ones to have the same thing happen so hopefully they magically appear one day.
Speaking of tires, I've got the wonderful service TPMS message on in the dash, and I don't remember ever seeing a relearn option when cycling through so today I'm gonna mess with that and see if I can either relearn their positions or find out if one or more of the sensors is bad. There are various other things on my list for this thing, but that's all the major stuff for now.
I went back today real quick to change the oil and try the TPMS relearn procedure on it. The horn beeped twice and the front left turn signal turned on but nothing happened after letting air out of the front left for over 20 seconds. Then I tried with every other wheel just to see if any of them would make it beep and none did. Does this mean none of them have sensors or that all of them are faulty? I assume that if I start the procedure and start with say the rear right, it would still work but when it told me the PSI for the front left it would actually be for the right rear? Point being I was just doing it as a test to see if any of the sensors would trip the relearn procedure. On the dash all the corners just say "--" so I don't know what that means.
Oh and then the shocks came in after I left so that's good that they're not lost or something.
It's an 09. I just saw those cheap tools and was wondering if they would work. Not much of a risk, thanks for sharing your experience, would have been difficult to find that post buried in that thread. Lol
So as I understand it currently, I believe that if you have a "--" reading on the TPMS menu, it means there's either no sensor, or the sensor has a dead battery. I'm guessing that in my case it's dead batteries on all 4 corners. So I guess I'm gonna get new sensors and install them myself before getting new tires this week and use one of those knockoff 50448 tools to do the relearn process.
