1986 G-30 with a Class C Home. Van has four sealed beam lights. Just got the van and noticed that all lights had water in them. Turned on lights and knew right away they needed to be changed. I did not check what the lights did prior to changing the beams. Put four new ones in and checked the lights and this is what they did. The top two lights came on, but when I hit the high beams the passenger low beam goes out and the high beam is on, the driver side, the low beam stays on along the high beam. What is the correct way these are supposed to work?? What could be the cause for such a thing. Thanks

 

Try to open the engine compartment fuse box and inspect the fuse discoloration then try to turn the headlights on again.
If not make sure if power is coming through the wiring harness, try to replace it if no power is coming through.

 

Usually the low beams turn off when the high beams are on. Take a lot of amps to run all 4 at once.
Check the relay, could be bad.

 

So the passenger side is working and not the drivers side. Is there a relay for left and right or together. No idea which relay it would be. 123 did not really understand what you were trying to say, do have lights but just configured right. Thanks

 

Well the first question that has to be answered is are all 4 supposed to be on for high beams?.... I don't know that answer. If all 4 bulbs are the same type then I would say yes. If the high beam bulb is different then maybe.


The high beam switch will dictate where the current goes in either scenario. So that is my guess for a starting point.
