Default Lower steering column

Me again. I have a 2001 Chevy 3500 Express, 5.7 cab&chassis, which is now a Roadtrek RV.

I am replacing the factory radio, I removed the dash bezel with no issue but now having trouble getting it back in place. I was told to remove the 2 bolts holding the steering column up to give me a couple more inch's to work with. Is this ok to do or will I bend, damage, destroy something?

it's fine the steering shaft is on a flexible joint but you may still want to hang it off a bungee cord or something

Many thanks. I always a bit hesitant to try something I read on the net!

whatever you do just don't pull it. It's on a splined shaft that can slip out, and you don't want to lose the alignment
