So Tuesday I swing by Jiffy Lube for my normal oil change. I have 19,600 miles on my 2017 Express 3500. Everything is fine except they say I have metal shavings on my diff plug and the seal (gasket) is starting to leak! I now have a service appointment on Monday to see what’s going on! Wish me luck even though I’m still under warranty.

Turns out the Jiffy bone heads were wrong, not only is nothing wrong with the diff, they installed the new oil filter so tight it was leaking. I had the dealer install a new filter and top off the oil for $72. Going to Jiffy Lube after work to get $72 from them.

 

Hopefully they give you a full axle, that is what I would ask for. That will give you all new brakes, bearings (which could be damaged by the metal), and everything. I don't believe dealers service rear axles anymore.

 

did they show you the shavings?

 

yeah...its jiffy lube. who wants to bet there is nothing but normal debris from break in.

 

I was doubtful at first but they didn’t try to sell me anything.

there was no one in jlube the untrained employee could turn to for advice. At a shop with techs, the oil change kid could walk to the next bay ask someone.

If you continue to use fast-lube shops...at least once a year have a real shop do a oil change where they check steering linkage and balljoints….I guarantee, fast lube shops don't do those checks.

for an oil change, how much cheaper is jlube vs a dealership?
does Jlube use the cheapest filters and minimum spec oil? I've never been there?

 

Ya with the dealer less than 200 yards from where I work there’s no reason for me not to go there any longer.

 

This is why I don’t go to quick lube places. Now imagine they’re opening your transmission or axle.
