Default Need advice on a 2001 Express

Found a 2001 express 2500 extended with 300,000kms for $800. I got it looked at and a mechanic said it needs around $1700 of work. Is this quote accurate? Should I pull the trigger on this?

I play in a band and it would mainly be used for touring and long highway drives. I attached the quote from the shop.

Sorry in advance if this isn't the right place for this, I just don't know much about this stuff.

Brakes for my '97 1500 Express cost $666 last year. Spark plugs and wires require removing doghouse and getting behind the wheels - time consuming. Doesn't sound expensive to me. With that many miles, you might consider flushing the cooling system and transmission.

A tune up and brake job is the best place for you to learn to do this stuff yourself. Also the price on the parts is a joke. Shop around. You can do better on everything on that list.
Spark plugs...easy.
Spark plug wires, may not even be needed.
Air filter...easy.
Front brakes...easy.
Do what you can yourself. Pick up a Haynes repair manual and give it a go. Only pay for what you cannot do. Tranny flush and service. Rear axle fluid service. etc.

If you buy it, take it to another shop and see how things compare.
