O² sensor on federal emissions 1986 G20?
Hello,
. I am restoring my 1986 G20, and I fixed all the vacuum leaks, general tune up, and a new cooling system, and want to get it running as it was when it left the factory. Yet, when I went to replace O² sensor, I found that the catalytic converter had been removed. I don't see any wires that would go to the O² sensor, I also looked on the exhaust manifolds for the O² sensor. Now I am wondering if my van ever had an O² sensor? And if so, where do I find the wires that go to it. My chilton manual says some came with O² sensors.

TBI G-vans have a one wire sensor in the left exhaust manifold near the outlet. Yours would be computer controlled carburetor but I believe that still needs a sensor to work correctly. Would be a single white wire. Take the doghouse off and have a look. If there ever was a sensor, the place it belongs should be obvious.
Computer carbs are not the most reliable system and some parts have become tough to get, so many people choose to eliminate it with a conventional carburetor and a swap to a non-computer distributor.
