This doesn't make any sense to me, but here it is. This is a 2009 Express 1500. I'm looking to replace the steering wheel, which means dealing with the airbag. The airbag has to be disabled and there are 2 methods, the easier way is to simply disconnect the battery and wait about 15 minutes.

Now...I've read that I could have a problem with the computer controls re-enabling. Why? This would mean that anytime someone replaced their battery, they would have an issue. I just don't see that. What is the experience/wisdom of the group?

 

disconnect the battery. It is your safest method. depending on the model, gm either recommends disconnecting the battery or pulling the airbag fuses. I have never had a problem disconnecting the battery.


Do you think you got some bad information. I have never even heard of computer controls enabling...can you be more specific as I do not know what that means? I am a gm dealer tech.

The year is wrong but it still concerned me.

Pulling the airbag fuse(s) was the other option.

 

your vehicle doesn't have the older passlock security but rather passkey 3. The concern being a no start. this will not happen to your vehicle.




Your vehicle is probably drive by wire so it has no throttle cable. Idle relearn should only be needed if your clean or change your throttle body.
