Default Rear View backup Camera Stuck on

Its a 2014 gmc savana i just recently picked up. The backup camera stays on the whole time. It just started happening the other day. I did swap out the radio (generic stock) for an ebay touch screen one but that shouldn't be related at all right? Is there a sensor for it to turn on on reverse or is it just connected to the backup lights? Eventually i plan to tap into the camera feed and hook it up to the touch screen when it gets warmer.

Did you wire in a control box? The stereo does all sorts of stuff including playing blinker noise in your driver side speaker. It wouldn't surprise me if that was your issue. It's all interconnected.

Is it a factory or aftermarket camera? I don't know about these vans specifically but aftermarket cameras are usually triggered by a 12v signal tapped off the reverse light circuit. Factory systems are probably similar. If the reverse lights are stuck on that could cause the camera to stay on too.

When I installed my touchscreen and cameras I wired in a toggle switch to activate the cameras any time I want. Check for something like that too.

The radio swap could affect it. If I remember correctly there was a line already in the harness that gave 12v with while in reverse and I didn't have to tap into anything outside the dash area. If you're giving that 12v it might trigger the camera.

As far as I know, the backup camera is stock since it shows on the rear view mirror. Im pretty sure the back up lights don't stay on but ill have to double check that. The radio came with a harness that was plug n play but wouldn't have thought it to effect the back up since its the stock is generic with no screen or back up cam options. Guess ill have to unplug the new one though to find out if it really is related. It is weird that the blinker sounds come through the radio. Seems I've lost that function with the new radio but I havent had a chance to look into that

I assume control box was meant as having a switch put In to turn it on or off manually?

I'm just going to put this out there: just embrace the stuck backup camera. The view out the rear is terrible in these vans, this way you actually know if there's somebody in a short car tailgating you. I have been considering hard-wiring my backup camera to stay on for this reason.

I'll second this. I installed one camera into the 3rd brake light for a good view of everything behind me and one in the license plate holder adjusted to show the bumper in the bottom of the view. With that one I can line up with the trailer in one shot or snug right up to almost touching something with the bumper.

Mine come on when in reverse or with a switch. I can switch between them with a 4 way video switch so I could add two more if I wanted. I kike being able to turn the screen off (touchsereen radio) because I don't like a lot of light in the van on dark roads.
