Default Ticking 6.0L

Chevy express (non afm) with the L96 6.0L vortec flex
-oil changes every 3500 miles for the life of the motor (110k miles)
-not used as a tow vehicle, only under 3000lbs 3-4x per year for a few years, really just used as a passenger/transport vehicle

This is what she sounds like... its kinda faint but you can heard the ticking

here is another video earlier this year

fuel injectors? spray pattern is pretty narrow (port injection) and it sounds like one of them may have gotten clogged up, I run my fuel tank pretty close to empty and this has no inline filter so my guess would be a clogged injector... also has a little bit of hesitation and a slight mis at idle that you can feel (kind of a random shaking but not motor mounts, just like someone is smacking the body and you can feel it every 1-2 seconds, runs pretty well when it is cold outside, suffers more on hot days)

no check engine lights, no fuel additives have ever been run, never run on e85, only 87 octane fuel

I also wanna say this motor has been babied... I let it warm up for a minute before driving to let oil start circulating and to get some heat into it, change oil every 3500 miles, drive slow and accelerate slowly. I have only gone wide open throttle probably 20 times during the life of the motor, just getting onto the freeway to burn off some carbon buildup. Stumped on this one. Only time we really hammered on it was when my buddy drove it and didnt realize it was in manual shift mode, it was in 1st and my buddy probably had it 4000 rpm (under very light throttle) for around 5 seconds... Other than that, nothing comes to mind that would have hurt the motor.

I'm sure my ear is not trained well enough but that sounds like something that is happening once every revolution of the engine not every other revolution. Does it happen only in park/neutral? Only when stopped? Does it happen when accelerating?

It is worse when it is cold but you can only hear it if you are really close to the wheel well or actually underneath the vehicle. It is not present under 1400rpm, then it faintly starts and increases with engine rpm and sounds like a rattlesnake.

If you listen closely in the video, you can hear it cut out of a split second

Don't double post please. One topic per question is enough. Nobody wants to go searching all over the forum for complete information. Thanks.

Scotty is a very smart mechanic with over 50 years experience. He knows what he's doing. I think you just misunderstood.

Anyway the advice in the link is perfectly valid, and can help you find your noise.

First, scotty kilmer has not posted a video actually repairing a vehicle in a long time and every time he does repair a vehicle, its always some old car thats extremely easy to do the repair on... in all of his new videos he either complains about how new cars are bad or clickbaits saying he is leaving youtube... he is not relevant to the current car industry

Second, that link only had to do with pulleys/ the belt drive when it came to engine related sounds... this is a mechanical sound, not a pulley as I have stated above.

For someone in his 70's he's amazingly spry. We'll see what you're capable of when you're that old.

He can only show cars that people bring him. Not his fault.

And he's right.

I don't like the titles either but what can you do. He's just trying to reach people.

Most of what he knows hasn't changed. Engines still have pistons and crankshafts.

I don't think you can eliminate belt driven stuff as a cause just yet. It only takes a few minutes to test.
did you watch the videos?
the screwdriver trick is really simple and effective, and the listening devices have really come down in price.
Your engine sounds fine to me. Wait until you have real problems.

Ya engines do still have pistons and crankshafts, but he has a lot of trouble explaining new technology and even stumbles on simple things like direct injection systems. He should stick to what he knows, cars from the 80s...

Also I took off my serp. belt and ran the motor for a minute, still ticking. Also if that engine sounds fine to you, that's an issue. There is an obvious tick. I am not the type of person to wait for "real issues", there is something called preventative maintenance and I am currently trying to prevent a larger issue.
