Default Timing chain with water pump?

I have a 2003 Chevy Express with 99K and noticed what appears to be a leak from the water pump. The water pump seems to be a doable repair for a computer geek, but should I be looking into the timing chain? That would put things out of my skill set. Please advise

yea, the chain can stay til about 300K in most instances, but replace the water pump. Normally when the chain is fatigued it is time for a rebuild anyway.
