Does anyone know what transmission went behind the 6.2 diesel in a 91 g30 van?

and also what might be in the early ones? like '83?

83 vans could either be the turbo 350 if it does not have the overdrive. If so then the 700r4. The 91 might have the turbo 400 if no overdrive 700r4 if it does. My 95 g20 had the 700r4 and my 90 1/2 ton vandura had the turbo 350.
Beware the rebuild cost of the 700r4.....lol

The correct transmission for a 91 6.2 diesel was the 4L80E.

According to the gm heritage site, if you have the 8600 gvw. Then yes you have the 4l80e..(which is the turbo 400 upgraded with electronic conrtols and an overdrive gear)

All other gvw's have the 700r4.

Default thank you

Thanks. i appreciate the answers. I am interested in buying a clean rust free hightop g30 with 175k. its from a dealer that says its a trade in with no issues. He wants 4700 though. more than i wanted to spend but maybe it's not too much for a very good condition one.

Outrageous price. Anything from the 90's with over 150k miles is only worth a couple to a few grand if in clean shape. Expect to have to do a lot of things to that van.
Better to get something newer with less than 60k miles on it. Then you can chip away at the little things over the years. Not to mention the rust issue with the older vans.
Note>>>>> do not get a white cargo van...unless you like it when he paint falls off.
