Default Transmission fluid change & flush torque converter

89' G20 101,000 miles
Fluid looks amber/clear I think its time to drain it?
Will I be able to draw the fluid from the dip stick tube, then run engine to drain torque converter or will I have to drop the trans pan then run engine to the drain torque converter?

Thanks for all your help,
Jim

It is 120 bucks to have a tranny shop to change your fluid and filter. Might as well just get them to do it. I would not just change the fluid only.

Why doing it myself? Here in NJ, PepBoys and 10minute oil change charge 150 dollars and NO pan drop and NO new filter. They draw the T-fluid out from filler tube while engine running to drain some T-fluid from torque converter.
Years ago I watched 10minute change mine for 75 dollars, they had to brace up trans and then remove the cross-member mount of transmission to remove pan. They did not run the engine to loosen some T-fluid from torque converter?
All suggestion are welcome, thank much.
Jim

I would talk to a true transmission shop. Big difference from a jiffy lube or Pep boys !!

My thoughts exactly. Phone around. I bet a tranny shop is better and cheaper.
