Transmission options
What is a better transmission in a new 3500 van? The 8speed 8L90 with the V6 or the 6 speed 6L90 speed with the V8?

For a work van and occasional towing. I am asking what transmission will hold up better in the long run and have the least amount of potential problems. The V6 is plenty of power for my needs but how is the transmission?

In theory, An 8 speed transmission will be smoother and more efficient towing/hauling, and generate less heat. It may be a little more expensive to replace/service.
But those GM 8L90s (partnership with Ford) were a complete failure. They're lemons. Avoid like the plague.

A V8 with more torque is more durable , takes more abuse, and gives you more passing power on the highway. For a working vehicle I would definitely choose a V8.

Am I reading correctly that a 2023 3500 only comes with the V6 and the 8L90? Or is it a different transmission now? Thank you for the above info.

Nope.
2023 is not available yet.
There are 3 engine and 2 transmission options. The V6 with 8 speed is standard.
