Default Transmissions. Older 4 speed towing capacity

Looking to purchase an Express van. I see in the specs, the older 3500 van with a 4 speed has a 14000 combination two rating. The newer 6 and 8 speeds have a 16000lb. But the old 4 seems to be a pretty reliable transmission. Do you think GM was being soft on the gross combination rating? Or should I really look for the newer transmission? Towing a 6700lb dry camper. It's listed as a 28' but OA length is about 34'.

4l80e is a nice transmission. 4l60e not so much.

I don't get the question. Even at 14,000 pounds for the 4-speed you're still way under the capacity with your camper. I believe you have to go with 2010 or newer to get the 6-speed in the 2500 or 3500.
