Upgrade cooling system 06 Express 6.0
I have a 2006 Express 3500 6.0 passenger van. I think I am the second owner. I have had it 7-8 years. Besides the typical paint pealing that white ones do, it has been a solid performer. Just normal wear/tear stuff.
I use it like a utility van, so it gets used sort of hard. I have an 18' steel deck dual axle that has a 3200 pound race car on it, and the back of the van usually has 500 pounds of "stuff" in it. These year has been a bit warmer than normal. Being in the midwest, things are SORT OF flat, not as flat as some might think. Running this rig at 80mph with A/C on has not nee much of an issue until this year. Normally it runs at about 210 on the gauge. This year it has been spiking up some (20-30 degrees) so backing off a bit or turning off the A/C brings things back.
So -- here we go;
1) Cooling system is tight. NO leaks, no air in it.
2) Fan clutch SEEMS to be okay.
3) Coolant is clean. It's orange, and I am not fond of THAT !!. That crap killed the 350 in my 87 1500.
4) Monday I am going to check local radiator shops to see if they can flow test the radiator. Not sure if that still gets done.
5) I am considering a new radiator, because working on and owning BMWs for the past decade I have learned that radiators do not live forever !! ANY RECOMMENDATIONS without going overboard on cost?
6) My van does NOT have aux coolers for oil or a/t fluid. It was originally spec'ed as a fleet vehicle for a church, so more delete options than there are add-ons. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS ON OIL AND A/T aux coolers? NOT interested in generic crap or ANYTHING "Dorman".
7) Any additional thoughts or comments would be appreciated.
