Default What Years Did Chevy Offer the Express in AWD?

Did it start with the redesign in 2003? I thought I read that 2013 was the last year.

Thank you for your help. I'm looking for an AWD Express and knowing the years will help eliminate the ads with erroneous claims.

Yes. No one has put any AWD information on the Wiki page yet. I will be happy to update it, but didn't want to put wrong information on the page.

Replying to my own thread here. The years GM offered the AWD option was from 2003 - 2014. Source: Explorer Conversion Vans online video.

I suspected because AWD was 1500 only it went away when the 1500 did.

I was told by my local O'Reilly Auto Parts that AWD was available on the 2500 6.0L in 2003. If you check RockAuto.com, under 4WD->DRIVETRAIN, you'll see TRANSFER CASE listed under multiple years. I thought it would be awesome to retrofit AWD to my '04 Extended, but I seem to remember the AWD wheel hubs were 6-lug? I'm sure an expert knows if a retrofit can be done!

It is possible it is referring to the 4WD retro fits that were done on these vans. Explorer Conversion Vans actually offers the 4WD retro fit as an option, complete with selectable transfer case. I have no idea what they charge, but obviously it can be done. Check with some local 4WD shops and if they can't figure out a way to do it, call Explorer.

Doubtful. The 6L generates a lot of torque. It would have to be very stout drivetrain.

I don't think conversion companies will touch anything that old. It's doable of course, but the expense will depend greatly on resources available to you. Paying someone else to do with will exceed your vehicle's value by many times.

Correct. AWD was only ever available on half ton vans which have 6-lug hubs.
