Default Impala LTZ Forward Collision Alert

I have a new Impala LTZ (1000 mi.). The forward collision alert is not working. It is turned on and set for distances. I have tried it at different conditions and speeds(25 mph required). It never works even getting dangerously close distances to cars in front. It gives no visual or audio warnings. It has went off 3 times, always going up a hill, and one of those there was no car in sight. So I know the lights and sound do work. The salesperson couldn't get it to work. The service manager drove behind another service tech and said he could never get it to work. He stopped after being too scared that he was going to have a collision. He checked codes and all were OK. He called GM service rep and he couldn't explain why it wouldn't work either. He said it probably would work, but I wouldn't know it until I had a collision. That was a ridiculous statement. Has anyone else run into this problem? I tried another like Impala at another dealership and it worked. Please let me know as I have been left with no solution for a dangerous safety hazard.

I have had a 2015 2LTZ for 16 months. At first the forward collision alert system worked, as designed. A couple of months ago it stopped working properly. The green icon would detect a vehicle in front of the car but the amber light or the red lights and tones would never come on when they should have. Last week I took the car into the dealership to have the collision system checked. They claimed that there were no error codes shown on the Tech II scanner. They basically acted as though I didn't now how to operate the system. So I left and drove the car home trying every possible scenario to get the system to work properly but was unable to do so. So, I took it in again this week and left the car over night at the dealership. I received a call from the dealer that the car was ready for pickup. When I arrived at the dealership I was told they had contacted GM tech assistance department and they were advised to completely reset the system. The service manager stated the shop foreman was able to get the system to activate several times when he test drove it. I asked that the shop foreman go with me on a test drive. On the test drive the green light activated when detecting a vehicle in front and the amber light came on when following too close to the vehicle in front but the red lights and tones never activated when they should have. The shop foreman really couldn't explain why. It is obvious this is a "cheesy" system compared to other models. It seems lie the dealership should have replaced the parts of the system to get it to work as designed. I have been a long time GM vehicle owner and have received great service from the all vehicles and dealerships. But, I feel GM needs to figure out what the problem is with the collision system and come up with a fix. This is a safety feature that needs to work properly.

Thanks a lot for your post about your LTZ. Our problems are nearly identical, including the responses from Chevy and GM. My tailgate alert is not working either. It turns green when it senses a car in front, but won't turn to amber eve even at dangerously close distances (5-10 ft). My forward collision alert doesn't work at all, and that is confirmed by the service manager of the dealership. I have been in contact with customer service at Chevy/GM and they tried to be helpful at first. The GM Tech Assistant that was contacted said my FCA system did work, but I wouldn't know it till I had a collision. That remark was insane. When I was contacted back by Customer Service, they had quickly changed tone and said, 'yes, the system is working' . I immediately smelled "cover-up" and circle the wagons mentality. This situation cannot be allowed to continue. They are endangering peoples' property and lives. I only bought the LTZ model because it was the only model that had the FCA included, and I had it on my previous car. I am a long time GM owner, also, but this is giving me serious misgivings. I am sending Consumer Reports copies of my calls and correspondence to see if they have had complaints. My lawyer said to keep anything related to this- written, recorded, etc., as the NHTSA would require this, also the' lemon law'. If you get anymore info on this could you please let me know. My e-mail is at the top of my post. Hope to hear from you.

Yes, it is frustrating when items you desire and pay for do not function properly! The FCA should function properly just like an owner would expect the lights, turn signals, brakes and etc to function properly. I just sent an email to you. Hopefully, other owners experiencing problems with their vehicles will notify GM and the NHTSA. This safety issue needs to be fixed by GM!
