Default 05 2500hd steering issues

I took the steering box off the frame and not sure what happened the box slid down and now can’t get it back in position. The whole steering rod moved down. Where should I start looking? Thanks.

i assume '05 truck it must be a power assisted rack, fluid pressure sealed (not just a box, it's got hoses hanging off it)

wow a photo would be nice! only box ?ortwo i installed were power assist. they have pistons that (on some models) need to be contracted for the rack to go on right and or for the tie rods to be installed (that means moving the arms from the outside - i do NOT mean open the box). think about if the rack has active pressure preventing it from "going on right" and if you need to deal with that (by watching youtube).

sounds like remove the tie rods, put the box in, then install the tie rods just so they aren't part of the problem. i'm sure there's a video on installing tie rods ?!

Don't be afraid to look at youtube for other similar (or any modern) steering rack. Your bound to pick up installation tips or even your solution. (such as what position the pistons/arm connecting stubs need to be in during installation and how to get them there)
