Default 10.2 to the 1/8 wanna go faster

so i have 1975 Camaro all the specs are 350sbc 2 bolt main, th350, 10 bolt with 3.73 gears, posi trac. I made a pass at the drag strip for the first time and i ran 10.2 this was 1/8 mile so it was very very slow, my rt was 0.42 which is also very very slow. i really just want some opinions from other people that have messed with this type of stuff before. should i pull the 350 out and build it or swap for a big block, i think the small block would be better for my budget but i haven't looked into fulling build a big block yet either. if i went the sbc route should i do a stroker kit or nitrous or both, if i did nitrous what shot size? i also wanna swap the transmission, on summit there is a th400 that already has a trans brake its $2600. what kind of torque converter should i use, what is a good stall? should i swap to a ford 9 inch or a 12 bolt, what kind of gears should i use? my goal is 7.9 to the 1/8, for the amount of money i plan on spending is this realistic goal? my budget is $5000 for the engine and $6000 for everything else.

For an 7.9 goal, your budget is tight but doable if you're smart. Stick with the small block for cost. A stout 383 stroker build with good heads and a solid cam will get you there. A 150-200hp nitrous shot would help a lot.

For the trans, a built TH350 or 400 with a brake is good. Get a converter matched to your cam; expect a 3500-4500 stall. Your 10-bolt with 3.73s will break with more power. A Ford 9-inch or 12-bolt with 4.10 or 4.56 gears is the right move.

Focus on the engine and rear first. Your goal is realistic with that budget if you prioritize.
