Default 1962 409 vs 63 425

Hello all

looking to purchase a 62 Impala with 409
I need to know the difference from a 409 hp to the 425 hp
what was changed
Numbers casting etc
Stamping on deck ?
I am asking because a seller has a late production 62 who thinks it could be a 425 hp

If the engine is original to the car the VIN number should be stamped on the pad on the passenger side front of the block next to the engine number. The suffix code was still QB. This upgrade was available as a service package in very late 62.

The 425 hp engine had a hotter cam, diffrent exhaust manifolds, and a single point distributer. This information is provided in Chevrolet By The Numbers 1960-1964 by Alan L. Colvin. These changes were offered as a service package in very late 1962.
