1990 starter problem

Just as a general question on this forum , When I engage my starter it only clicks, but my main question is . . .

"why do all my LIGHTS come on dimly WHILE IT'S CLICKING" ?

Weak or bad battery. Could be loose or corroded battery cables. Bad alternator that lets the battery run down. These are several things to look at.
