1993 Z 71 4wd not working

1993 Z 71 4wd not working
This is my buddies truck (1993 Z71 Silverado V8)and he is having a hell of a time with his 4wd. It is old school lever shift to the transfer case, the 4wd light lights up but the hubs don't engage. I am not real sure how they ingage, I can't find any vacuum lines to front axle. Any help on where to look would be very helpfull. Thanks
