My 1997 Lumina car speedometer works for awhile and then stops working, it is intermittent.First of all does it have a speedometer cable or is it electronic? Whats the best way totroubleshoot the problem.

it's electronic. Chances are if it's intermittent then it's a connection problem somewhere. Could be a bad guage, but I would check the wiring first

 

Where are the connections that I should check? I saw a speed sensor on the wiring diagram but not sure where all I shouldcheck the connections.

 

just look at the wiring diagram and follow the colored wires. I don't really know where they are off the top of my head.

The fact that it's intermittent says it's probably a wiring problem. But it could still either be a problem with your guages or the sending unit. Your best bet is to recreate the problem or just start throwing parts at it till the problem doesn't come back.
