1998 GMC z71 Problem!
Hello, I am currently having issues with a 1998 z71 GMC k1500 I just purchased from a local guy in town. He says he rebuilt the engine and replaced tie rods, etc, new gaskets. I got the truck for only $1000. Which I thought was a steal because it is in fairly decent shape as far as no rust, dents, solid frame and the interior is near perfect. But when the truck is idling and or driving it knocks pretty good, I've seen various videos of rods and lifter valves. The guy said he believes it is a lifter that is either loose or bad (he just "replaced" the crank and top end). I want to believe it's just a lifter, but it doesn't sound like a sowing machine like everyone says it should if it's just a lifer. So before I tear the valve covers off, any suggestions?

Greetings Justin welcome to the Forum.
It's really hard to describe a sound with text like we have to do here. I'd suggest that you take your ride by a shop, and let an experienced ear hear the sound. THEN once you have that info come on back and we can talk about it.
Have a good Day !
