Default 2007 Chevy Cobalt 2.2L timing chain

2007 Chevy Cobalt LT 2.2L engine. 180,000 miles....I had a dealership mechanic tell me I should replace the timing chain. Its a $700 job. However from what I've read the timing chain should not need replacing for the life of the car assuming that the oil levels and condition is maintained. I have changed the oil every 3000 miles since I bought it new. Is the dealership looking out for my car's health or trying to make some easy $$$. Don't want to fork out $700 if I don't need to.

Another issue that I'm having which nobody thus far has been able to determine the cause is the steering wheel shakes when the car gets between 50 and 60MPH. Below and above that speed seems to be ok. First though is the tires are worn uneven or out of balance. The problem existed on the last set of tires and also with the new tires we installed about 3 months ago. I also replaced the rotors, brakes and hubs. I don't know whats left that could cause this problem.

Thanks to anyone for any suggestions good or bad

At 180,000 mile and near 10 years old you are already on the 2nd life of the car.

My concern is the low price of $700 ,dose this include the balance shaft / water pump chain to.

I didn't get an itemization so I'm not sure on that. My cobalt was at the chevy dealership for another job and they recommended having it replaced. I told them i would consider it but after some research. I'm no car guru or mechanic so I don't have the knowledge about these things. I plan to hang on to this car as long as possible so perhaps it's in my best interest. I try to save $$ doing some things myself but a chain replacement and other pieces of that puzzle is a bit too scary for me to try I feel. So far this cobalt has been flawless hence my reluctance to let it go.
