Default 2007 Equinox Whining Noise

My Equinox is letting out a whining noise while in idle and as you accelerate the noise just gets louder. From the research I have done it sounds like a bearing somewhere on the serpentine belt.

I put a screwdriver from ear to the alternator and it sounded like it was coming from there but I have a feeling that a bad idler pulley bearing could also cause the vibration to run up to the alternator and throw a little trickery at me. I didn't feel safe putting the screwdriver on any of the pulleys.

What is the best way of determining if it is coming from the alternator or one of the pulleys or water pump?

Any Ideas

pop the belt off and spin the pulleys by hand you can usually hear a slight growl or sometimes feel play if you try to rock the pulley
