2009 5.3l oil pressure issue 160 000kms
Less than a year ago engine light came on, oil pressure dropped below 250 on gauge. Warning light was intermittent but always came back on at highway speed and normal operating temperature. Took to Chev dealership and had pressure sending unit changed. Just last week same thing happened. They said no sensors were malfunctioning, tested bottom and top end pressure. No issues. No apparent leaks anywhere. I had oil change 2500km ago. Dipstick showed maybe 1/4l down. They are saying a bearing is faulty. I picked up truck light off pressure normal. They quoted me 12hrs labor just to tear down and look for issues and a quote for replacement engine. I don't get how a bearing would affect pressue. Will go back to get mechanic to explain. Anybody have any opinions? Thanks!

if a bearing spins at all you will hear it and it will essentially be catastrophic. How often does you engine oil get changed? If you go extended intervals on oil changes it will cause oil sludging which can cause oil pressure issues due to gunk in the oil passages…
What needs to actually be tested is oil pressure with a mechanical oil pressure gauge, if that tests well then you need to check the sensor (new parts don’t mean they’re good), check the circuit for short, open, and load test the circuit, if that all tests good then test the module for power and ground, if this all checks out you need to test the wiring from the ecm to the instrument panel cluster (short, open, load test), check the ipc for internal faults. If that all checks out the ECM is likely the culprit, although it will need to be tested for an integrated circuit fault (likely an open)
