My 2001 2500 HD with 8.1 and Alison started having trouble starting intermittenly and now has cut out on me while driving. First it would crank great but no start. The only thing that would make a difference was turning the ignition all the way off and trying again, it would start no problem. It doesn't matter if it's hot or cold. It did it again, then on my return trip, started slow, cranked fine but took to many cranks in my opinion, and while driving about 40 mph it seemed like it shifted into nuetral and the battery lite came on, the steering was still there and as I decided to start coasting to the road side I put it in nuetral and it came back alive, and was ok to home.

It still has extended waranty so it will make a trip to the dealer.

Will removing battery power clear any codes?

Will reprogramming with Hypertech to original before taking it in clear any codes?

Any help will be appreciated.

if there is something wrong, clearing the codes will only be a temporary thing..it will only come back. i would give programming to stock a try, to see what happens.

Thanks,

I'm going to try reprogramming, but my concern is to not erase the codes that I want the dealer to see. I still have warranty so I want to reprogram but not loose any codes. I do have a messege in to Hypertech to see what they say.

Thanks, CMac

Word back from Hypertech is that reprogramming the computerWILL erase any trouble codes that exist.

It happend again yesterday, and went completely dead while driving. It wouldn't start after and when I pushed the ground cable tighter it started. I wouldn't think a ground cable that was still somewhat tight would allow it to crank great but not start, or stall in mid flight.

Definitely not the battery, while running on the driveway I disconnected the ground from the battery and it stay's running, as I thought it should, but with new technology, I had to check. So, something else is up for sure.
