305 to SM465

305 to SM465
I'm not sure if this is the right area to ask this question but here goes nothin...
I'm swapping a Carb 305, which I think is an 87+ with a one piece rear main because the bolt pattern is 3.00".
I have a SM465 out of an 80's (C20?) 6.2L Diesel.
The bellhousing matches up, but when I tried to mate the two, I couldn't get the motor to slide all the way back. The motor and bellhousing were about 2 inches away from eachother and didn't want to move at all.
What would cause this? I was using a Centerforce Billet 11" flywheel. Was the flywheel too big?
Any insight would be awesome.
Also, this is going into an 82 Toyota Pick-Up and the trans is already mounted.
