I have an 87 monte with a 305 motor (carborated). I was driving it home the other day when it started to run slightly weak and when accelerating from a stop it would start to hesitate a bit. I had to flutter the gaspedel to get it to keep running. After I turned off the car I went tostart it up and it will run for a few seconds and die. If I pump the gas a bunch of times and turn the key it will fire back up for a few seconds and then quit. Anybody have any ideas or a similar issue? At first I thought the accelerator pump went bad in the carb but alsothink it may be a clogged fuel filter, but haven't been able to disconnect the fuel line from the carb to check it yet.

 

I'd do the fuel filter, esp. if it hasn't been done in a long time, maybe even a fuel pump. I had a caprice once that fluttered even at a steady pace; did the fuel pump and that was it.
