454 build
Hi guys,
I have always been a SBC person so building this 454 is a little different to me. I have done alot of research but I can't really find exact answers to some of my questions. I'm hoping someone here haas a little experience in this area. My starter block is a later 70's 4 bolt block. I bought a new set of 22cc dome top pistons and a set of 336781 heads. I've had all the machine work done a a reputable performance machine shop here in Birmingham. The pistons are .020 os. My first question is, I know the heads are open chamber heads. The pistons stated they were closed chamber pistons. I have read that this combination can be used but not vice versa. (closed chamber heads with open chamber pistons). My camshaft is a Lunati with 530/542 lift. The block and the heads have not been shaved and will be using the Felpro gaskets .039. Should I be concerned with piston valve clearance. Is this scenario even something I should be concerned with. Also, is this a good combination for a classic restore? No drag strip. And, could anyone give a close calculation of HP/Torque and compression ratio?
