I'll hook up my tach/dwell later today and see for sure but it idles well, I'm guessing 800 rpm. Smooth as heck.

I hooked up a vacuum gauge to the manifold and tested vacuum. I found a GREAT WEBSITE for figuring out vacuum issues here:

http://www.secondchancegarage.com/public/186.cfm

That site has an awesome animated illustration of any vacuum issues.

Turns out the vacuum seems pretty good. I adjusted the timing for the highest vacuum. It appears that the highest vacuum is well advanced of any of the settings I had it at before. Well above and off the timing gauge I'm guessing 15-20 degrees advance.

Do you know if setting the timing at highest vacuum point might do the trick on emissions??

idk, i would think that would be worse because it is sucking more into it, as u pick up the timing, the rpm's must be rising too right? i honestly would take it to a shop, the o2 sensor may be going, and throwing parts at it mill be more expensive in the end, find a good honest shop and get them to run a diagnostics on it, all the fails in emisions testing must cost a lot. one more thing under the hood look at the tuning graph it tells the plug gap and idle speed etc. what is the factory idle speed compared to what the truck is idling at? if it idling high, that may be why it fails the emissions test. i would leave it at the factory timing specs, it is not good to try to fool the computer advancing the timing so much will cause the truck to detonate, but it wont detonate, the knock sensor will catch it first and cut power and make u wonder what is happening and why u can accelerate, and big blocks are very well known for detonation

The other benefit of taking it to a shop at this point; is if you take it to one which is certified in state inspections, they can both adjust it, and slap that new inspection sticker to her, too...

I have a streamliner and love it, I rented the exact model I wanted before purchasing though and I highly recommend this to anyone whom has not owned one before

...interesting marketing strategy with these last 4 posts...???

OK so here's the update.

RV performed well on 800 mile haul but with less than ideal fuel economy. 5.3 mpgs. Jeesh.

So I tried the 1 gallon of denatured alcohol and 3 gallons of 87 octane trick to pass emissions. MY HYDROCARBONS WENT THROUGH THE ROOF !!!! 1500+ in idle and load. SO MUCH for that trick. lol

I finally gave up and took it to the tunex shop near the house for $120 to just look at it!
They found a small vacuum leak and the number 6 and 8 cylinder spark wires switched. That's righ the number 6 and number 8 spark plug wires were switched. LOL. That's what I get for changing one at a time and thinking that the guy before me did it right. LESSON LEARNED.
So the guy at the shop said he tested Hydrocarbons on the 5 gas analyzer and they were well within tolerence after correcting the mistakes.

I changed the oil and ran it into emissions.
I FAILED AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The idle DROPPED Well within range to 148, but the loaded reading is 900.

I took it back to shop and asked him to run the gas anylizer again because either he never did that and lied about it or he did and the readings changed significantly from the shop to the emissions station. He wants me to bring it back tomorrow so we'll see what happens next.

Recap:
All 8 cylinders pumping 145 psi and also put on the scope and are even after wires fixed.
Fixed vacuum.
Spark plugs.
Wires.
Distributor cap.
Rotor.
PCV.
Cataylitic converter.
Timing significantly advanced AND very retarded
1 gallon of denatured alcohol and 3 gallons of 87 octane.
Full tank of 87 octane after another vacuum leak fixed and reversed plug wires fixed
2 Oil changes.

FAILED!!!!
PS. egr has nothing to do with HC but incedentally it is tested and functioning properly.
Is there anything else to fix???? I cannot even get an exception unless it's less than double the hydrocarbons.
