Default 454 Year Differences

Im looking to start a project car with my old man, we have decided on building a 454. my question is, Would a 454 from 90's chevy 3500 be comparable to using a 454 from the 70's? what are the differences, pros' cons..ect. I can pick up a full truck with a 454 for dirt cheap as apposed to just and engine from the 70's priced higher.

I have a 90s model truck 454 in my 71 elCamino; if you get into the engine, there are 3 variations of the big block and not all heads and manifolds interchange. I like the later models with low compression, still have a ton of torque, run well on reg gas, don't run hot in traffic or parades, whats not to like?
