4x4 problem
EVERYONE with a pushbutton 4WD on the dash has this problem. (S I G H) That's why all the serious 4-wheelers have manual floor-mounted shifters.
The cow's out of the barn for your current vehicle, but if you can't put up with a manual 4WD selector(for whatever reason) you probably don't really need 4WD.
If you're serious, and you intend to do offroad driving in the future, it would probably be a good idea to be sure your next truck has a manual 4WD selector on the floor.
The solenoids(actuators?) in the automatics stick if they aren't used almost daily.

@ Therewolf--you have some pretty good points. I would caution you, however, from making a blanket statement such as you did. The fact is, MOST of these systems are good, and work. If they do not work, we should strive to MAKE them work--because it is technology that makes our lives simpler. I think we should always be trying to make things better as a matter of fact, instead of just saying "Well, it can't be fixed--let's go back to the stone age"...so to speak.
I am learning more and more about this truck--and I gotta tell you all--I really like it! I have to replace most of the suspension, and am already into new brakes & rotors (I like to do-it-myself, to keep costs down) but I really like the truck.
I'm looking forward to learning alot here!!!
Well Chevymech, I'm sorry you feel that way. The truth is stiff, and it hurts, sometimes.
But I feel even sorrier for your customers, if you are telling them that pushbutton 4WD is
dependable, or advisable.
Ask around. Or do a thread search into how many people on this site, for example, are having trouble engaging their 4WD with automatic(dash) shifters, as opposed to manual floor shifters.
I severely apologize if this rubs people the wrong way, but should we just lie to people and whistle a happy tune like a car salesman? IMO it's much kinder to let people know if the equipment is POS before they throw their money away on more of the same. Do we really want people to have equipment(that they believe is perfectly fine) which is going to fail them when they need it the most?
It's bad enough that 4WD is an expensive option, all-around, when it's working properly. What a fantastic expense is added to that when it's not dependable.
I went the pushbutton route a while back, and it froze up on me, too. When I got my new vehicle, (even though I don't absolutely "need" 4WD) I decided if I was going to have it, I wanted to be sure it was dependable, so in the few instances when I do use it, it functions properly.

Hi hawkdriver1965,
Welcome to the Chevy Forums.
I've always felt a class-action suit by automatic 4X4 owners might force the
manufacturers to stop being so cheap when it's obvious certain systems need to
be beefed up to be dependable.

I Sell cars and not everyone lies to customers. With information on the internet these days you can't lie to people. For you to say that makes you look like an ignorant ******. I Sell 20 cars plus a month and I don't have to lie about ****, including what I make a year which Is probably a lot more than you.. lol

Well, jkallday, Welcome to the Chevrolet Forums.
It would seem especially pertinent that you review
the forum's rules and regulations, particularly regarding
flaming, profanity, and rude behavior. Although I have to
admit it would have been nice to encounter a truthful car
salesman, like you, in my 45+ years of purchasing automobiles
and trucks through dealerships.
But, if what you claim is true, I have to wonder what
would have motivated you to such a vitriolic response.
On a personal note,I highly dislike overbearing Moderators.
Keeping this fora clear of spammers, for members like yourself,
is really my forte'.
But perhaps you should consult with another Mod here at
at CF in order to alter your prior post so it is befitting of a
family oriented forums.
hawkdriver, the thing about "the stone age" is that while
stones are crude, bulky, and unattractive, they succeed
in usage for their intended purpose, for the most part.
