6.0 Burning Oil
Aight, got a question for any of you guys with a 6.0. Do yall burn any oil. My truck is burning enough oil for my DIC to tell me to add oil. This is the 2nd time I've seen it since i bought it last year. It's also the 2nd time the truck has ever gone over 3,000miles on an oil change. My OLM says I have 53% oil life left, I call B.S., if I have to add oil to it. At the moment I'm running 10w30 conventional Pennzoil. Theres no oil stains on the engine at all, so I don't think I'm leaking any. The truck has 18,400miles as of now. I'll be running synthetic this next go round, mainly cause I got a case for cheap, and plan on running it from here on out.
How many miles do you drive before having to add oil? Also hoe you drive has a direct bearing on oil consumption. If you're adding 1 quart of oil after 3000 mi., even on a modern engine that may be considered normal oil consumption.
Also check with your dealer. He may have a bullitin out on this problem. Plus any repairs, If needed may be under the powertrain warranty.

I have an 04-6.0; 342 gears and not a lot of high speed driving. So it may not be a fair comparison.
I guess I burn about half a quart every 5K or so. Now I'm going to pay more attention to the dipstick before oil changes.

I usually drive about 20miles a day. bout 10miles total running 60-65mph. the rest of it is city driving. On the weekends I guess I'd put bout 40miles a day on it. thats a good mix of Highway/City driving.
My mother bought a 2000 2500 4-door shortbed brand new, with the 350 5.7. That 1 burned bout 3qts every 5-7000. I checked the stick one time and it was bone dry, that had been 9,000miles since the last oil change. Mother doesn't always keep up with the mainetence on her vehicles...

I'm going to. It's gonna have to wait a week though, no days off at the moment. I know their gonna tell me they can't find anything wrong. Especially since I've already replenished the oil. And no codes.
I love this truck, but this will be the 3rd trip to the dealer with it. There's no proof that I changed the oil 3,000miles ago either. Also, I'll own it a year on Friday.

Defiantly helps when I need something done. LOL. It's amazing how much nicer people get when you show up in uniform. I'll be dropping the truck off right before work anyway prolly.. .
Went to the dealer, told them it burned 3 qts in just over 3,000miles, said i replenished, they told me they can't do anything, and next time don't replenish the oil and come to the dealership. I said that's kinda dumb, I'm not driving my truck, at all, with only 3 qts of oil in it. They suggested I tow it in if it happens again, I suggested them pay for the tow. Well, that's bout all that was said. They didn't help much.
