6.0L replacement options
I have 160,000 miles on my 2009 Suburban 4x4 LTZ 6.0L and unfortunately I have run into continuing engine issues.
A little background...the engine dropped a lifter at 150,000 miles. It was fixed but dropped another recently after about 10,000 miles. After some research, it appears that this could be an issue directly or indirectly related to the AFM but I am not certain. I would have expected more trouble-free miles based on how the vehicle has been maintained and driven. This time, when I began the repair, I invested in an AFM DOD delete kit and a new cam only to put it back together and find what we have determined to be a main bearing knock...it is a bad knock.
The mechanics in our shop (heavy civil construction) have urged me against attempting a rebuild and are strongly suggesting a long block replacement. This is new territory for me as I am unsure what to search for that can be plug-and-play. I do not want another engine with AFM but do want something that will be reliable (if that is possible in today's day and time).
The interior of the vehicle as been painstakingly maintained and is spotless on the interior and exterior. I would hope to get many, many more miles out of her and want to make a good decision with regards to a replacement and path forward. Aside from these recent issues it has been one of the best vehicles I have ever owned.
Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
