Default 6l80e transmission slipping **Stupid Question**

So I got a very stupid question but not making sense to me. I have a 2013 gmc sierra 1500 5.3l with the 6l80e transmission. The other day(friday April 26) the truck seemed to drive fine, a couple hard shifts, expected with the mileage on it, but otherwise fine, next day I drove to town and completely different, felt like the transmission was slipping, not engaging, hesitation from stop sign when I took off so I got it home, changed the fluid and all of that and no change. Went for a drive today in hopes for a change and had troubles moving forward, got it home checked the fluids and noticed my engine oil was extremely low, so I put what I had left at home in and took it for another spin and seemed to be better. But I did notice my transmission temp seemed to be rising quickly and can't manually shift gears, won't show I selected it.
So I guess what I'm asking is, will low engine oil have the same affect as a failing/failed transmission?? It doesn't make sense to me and no way to read the codes. Any help would be appreciated before I bring it into a transmission shop and spend thousands for something that's a cheap fix
