84 C10 Trans woes
Recently a friend of mines girlfriend gave me her grandfathers old 84 C10 2wd. The truck was used to pull a horse trailer its entire life, upon checking the trans fluid I noticed a unique shade of brown, alot like chocolate syrup. Its a TH350c, so I purchased a complete rebuild kit a began redoing my first automatic transmission. The book I have wasnt as good as I had thought but after assembling/disassembling the trans about 8 times I finally got it together and ready to install back in the truck, well the pump bushing was to tight on the torque converter collar so when I pulled the converter to the flywheel unknown to me it also pulled out the bushing. But other then leaking like the Titanic everything worked great. Now comes the problem, I purchased an aftermarket mid stall (1600 - 1800) made by Recon. Reinstalled the trans and everything works great till you touch the brake pedal, it instantly stalls the engine. This wasnt a problem with the stock converter. Any clue what the problem or problems could be. If it matters I used a Red Eagle rebuild kit and a TransGo shift kit.
Spoke to a tech on the phone today from where I purchased the new converter. After him asking me alot of questions about what I had done and what I used to do it with he determined it was the electrical connection pushing power to the lock up solenoid and not allowing it to unlock. His solution was to disconnect the harness from the trans so the converter wouldnt stayed locked. Well disconnecting the harness made no difference and has added to the mystery. Please inform me of any other troubleshooting ideas.
