Default 96 tbi 5.7 high miles

Other than owning a 93 s10 with a v8 swap, how dependable is a tbi 5.7? It's in a 96 gmc z71. It does run good, no misfire, no sounds or leaks. transmission is in good shape also, no slips or ever revving shifts. the question basically is that the motor has 270k on it and I would be trading my 97 wrangler for it. the body is in perfect con. and if the motor ever went out in the future id just replace it my self. but with a baby on the way right now that wouldn't be possible till the future. so with the high mileage how much would some one mechanically inclined be able to squeeze out of it? not looking for a direct answer, any thing could go wrong, just maybe some advice or confidence before I pass it up.
