Default 99 suburban won't stay running

Hey everybody, just had a buddy swap motors on my 99 suburban and now the ignition switch isn't working. My buddy bypassed it and wired a momentary switch in to start it. This worked ok for a couple of days but intermittently, it will turn over a couple of times then die. The security light is on all the time. not sure if it's a short, but it seems related to the factory alarm or something else electrical. Any ideas? There's also a short somewhere in the interior lighting, but the fuse is pulled, so not sure that's part of it.
