Default AC problem

I have a 2008 chevy silverado the ac just quits working when engine gets hot engine is not overheating compressor just stops and when i push the ac button to turn it back on it just flashes and goes off any ideas is there a relay or something that may be going bad and goes off when gets hot or is compressor going bad? AC works when i first start engine and works for an hour or so ,would hooking up to diagnostic tell me whats going on?

Is there any difference in cooling performance relative to driving speed? Does the AC performance drop off when the engine temperature is rising above normal?
