Default AFM Oil question

I have a collapsed Active Fuel Management lifter. While reading up on how to fix the problem, others have mentioned replacing the Valve Lifter Oil Manifold (VLOM)

Why would I need to do this if mine is not broken? Have they made improvements to this part or something? If mine is clean and looks good, should I re-use it?
