Default Aftermarket radio help

Good morning everyone, I purchased a 2016 Chevy 2500HD WT 6.0 gas 2 wheel drive long bed in Jan of this year. It came with the 4 inch base radio. I installed a 7 inch DMX809S Kenwood in it and shortly after doing so, the TPMS light started coming on and staying on. When I look at the DIC it shows the driver side front with dashes instead of the actual tire pressure. I took it to tire shop, they reset and relearned the TPMS and I thought I was good. It lasted well for a while but now is doing the same thing. It's been doing it for about a month now. I took it back to tire shop and they tested all sensors and they are working fine and batteries in all sensors are good. He told me he has seen where the installation of aftermarket radios can cause this. I also checked with my buddy who is a mechanic to see if he has ever had this issue and he said yes it is possible that the aftermarket radio could be causing the issue. When I installed the radio I did so using the vehicle specific wire harness from Crutchfield using my vin number. So it was mostly plug and play but I'm having this issue with TPMS light and one tire not reading. Can any be off assistance or point me in the right direction of what to do or where to go? And if my post is in the wrong location please forgive me and tell me where I need to post as well. Thanks in advance.

Wish I could help, but I will say that the modern vehicles have the radio so tightly integrated into the vehicle that I am actually surprised you were able to swap it out successfully and only have the issues you are describing. Every generation of GM truck has put more and more functionality that is not "radio" related into the radio. I like Crutchfield, but they are at the mercy of whoever made the "magic box" they sold you to adapt the after market radio to your truck. The issue is likely in that "magic box" that is intended to preserve vehicle functionality.

I'll be watching to see if you come up with a solution.

Good morning Jfmorris, I pray all is well. You are thinking along the lines that I have been thinking as well. On yesterday evening I decided to take a three hour drive one way with the truck. When I left that tpms light was on and only three tire pressures were reading. After about an hour or so, I looked at the dash and the light was out and all four tires were reading. Then about what seems like an hour or so, the light came back on and only three tires were reading. This kept switching back and forth the entire trip there and back. I'm honestly thinkin of just putting a piece of black tape in the area of the tpms light and keep on driving. LOL But for real, the behavior that I noticed yesterday with it coming on and off makes me think that maybe a battery is going down and or the signal isn't strong enough at times to register.

You might have hit the nail on the head there - maybe the issue is entirely coincidental. If your 2016 vehicle still has the original TPMS sensors, you are getting towards the end of the active battery life for those. My wife's 2012 Subaru lost a wheel sensor when it was about 10 years old, and I finally got tired of seeing the TPMS light. I bought 4 sensors, went someone local to get them installed, and they determined it was just one wheel sensor that was down, and replaced the one. I traded it not long after.
