Default Air Filter Replacement...

Hi. Wondering how would I be able to tell when I should replace my engine air filter in 2002 Chevy Avalanche 1500 aside from the obvious? Never dealt with the gauge before and looking for a bit of assistance...

Thanks,

Doc...

do not go by the gauge. it can be full of dirt and debris and still show ok by the indicator. always remove it for visual inspection.

I prefer oem air filters. some aftermarket filters do not meet filtering standards; especially high flow filters. junk filters lead to a dust out conditions which damage maf sensors...worse case... score cylinder walls.

the most accurate way to check an air filter is with a calibrated eyeball lol.

I agree those vacuum gauges are a joke and in most cases if its bad enough for the gauge to show its bad you're likely already causing other issues or having drivability problems
