Air Filters : any brand better?
If your goal is to protect the maf, sensor stick with the oem filter. I used to work for Nissan. the maf sold for $400 in Canada. putting in aftermarket filters of any brand killed the maf. They didn't filter out the dirt. the filter element was clean and everything after the filter would be covered in crud. When the oem filter was in place, the filter element was dirty but everything after was clean. oem for me only.
Don't use a wet filter and if you do use oil sparingly.
if you have an old car that uses speed density calculations for fuel trim metering (ie. no maf sensor) put whatever filter you want in.

X2 on using OEM only. I believe an OEM filter in most conditions will do it's intend job for 30,000 miles. If it gets dirty enough to restrict air , it would only reduce power at wide open throttle.
