Default Airbag light

My dad has a 2000 Chevy Venture van with just over 72,000 miles on it. The airbag light came on the other day and now stays on anytime the car is running. Is this light on a timer that causes it to come on after a certain mileage to try to get them to take the car to a dealer to be checked? or could there be another cause for it to come on. We tried unhooking the battery and reconnecting it, but it didn't help. Thanks for any info on this.

Default RE: Airbag light

it is probably the sensor/module, all airbag systems have a back-up system. 1 sensor controls the airbag alone and the 2nd controls the airbag and a couple of other systems like your headlights, ignition, etc. They do this so it makes it harder for people to disconnect their airbags.
