Alternator ground screw fix kit specs
Hi friends,
I recently purchased a 2000 Venture minivan, its the extended wheel base model. I have the apparently common issue of dim headlights, all lights actually, except except a couple odd exceptions. I've read over and over about a service bulletin Chevy put out years ago to solve this problem. It involves a kit which GM released containing a longer alternator ground screw and I believe a washer. I have been unable to locate this kit unfortunately at any parts dealers, and although I've searched high and low, I can't seem to find any specs on the replacement screw.
Has anyone had personal experience with this situation and could you please share the dimensions of this screw and washer, and any other pertinent info? It seems one of the articles I read about said something about a ground wire also. Thanks very much, I look forward to hearing from you.

If it is just a longer ground screw, can't you remove the existing one and just replace it with the exact same screw, only longer? A star washer is probably used because it bites into the metal surfaces to get a good ground.
Have you checked with your local dealer rather than the parts houses? Another thought is to check with a quality alternator rebuilder. They might know. One such rebuilder I have used many times over the last couple of years is Ademas located in Coopersville Michigan on Randall road. I don't have their phone number as I am not home right now, but it is in area code 616. Another place is an authorized Delco rebuilder. There are many of them across the country.
Good Luck

Greetings AL welcome to the Forum.
Though I can't give you any direct info about acquiring that screw, I will comment on various problems which arise concerning grounds.
When you have time, you should go through ALL ground connections/straps. Disassemble, brush/scrub/replace any which are corroded and reassemble.
This general preventative maintenance procedure can prevent other very aggravating problems in the future.
