Default Bypass the ignition system

I just finished rebuilding an older column for my 1974 chevy malibu. Got it all in and wired but it won't start. I have to move the car very soon, so I was going to try and bypass the ignition switch.
There are two switches on the steering column, I think the ignition switch is the one closest to the steering wheel where the steering column linkage fits into. I pull the wires back off the column and was trying to use a momentary switch to get the car running. Nothing happened, I think I may be using the wrong wires? Does anyone know how to get this car to start and drive using the steering column wires.

I just got the car from my brother who died and have not yet ordered a service manual. The column was broke so I took it out and did the best I could rebuilding it. Also having a slight issue with getting the lower shaft to fit the part that goes from the gear box up. Any suggestions on this issue?

Appreciate any help I can get.

Welcome from Florida. Make sure the neutral safety switch is working and wired properly. If the harness is in bad shape you might have to get another one from a vintage car junk yard. There are several of them if you do a search on Google. You might be able to make a harness yourself if you can get hold of a schematic.

Thanks, oldchevy. The neutral safety switch/ignition switch has been taken off. Was thinking that I could use a momentary switch to get the car to start and run. Not sure what wires from it to jump? Is there more to it than that?
